Hey. Welcome to my blog.
I'm Lauren. I'm a God-fearing Journalism student at LSU in Baton Rouge. I've experienced difficult things, seen more than I should, and understand more than I want.
Because of my journalism classes, I'm incapable of writing a paragraph of more than three sentences.
I believe in being ridiculous. I've realized that I'm never scholastically productive until after most children are in bed. I think this is when Adult Lauren comes out.
I believe that every person has a story to tell. I believe that the Holy Bible is the inerrant Word of God. I believe that every little girl has a certain amount of magic in her. I believe that every girl (and woman) has a beautiful power.
That's what "callimache" is. At least, that's what one of my teachers told me. It's Greek. I asked her about it after learning about Andromache (her name means "power of a man") and Pandora (she's referred to as a "kalon kakon," or "beautiful evil thing") in my Women in Antiquity class. ("Callimache" is the combination of the two names.)
I feel that junior-high-aged girls are bombarded daily with far too many messages of what's cool, what's beautiful, how they should act, how they should dress, etc. I'm a firm believer that the media is the primary cause of girls' low self-esteem.
That's why I'm writing this blog. (Well, that and because my writing teacher encouraged me to do it.) I've gone through a lot in my past (to be detailed later), which has given me a passion for young girls.
I want them to know they're beautiful. I want them to read books and not watch Hannah Montana (or Twilight). I want them to find their identity in Christ and Christ alone. I want to help.
Through this blog, I hope to share my experiences, insights and lessons. I hope to expose the truth about real beauty through the Bible, while trying to be mildly entertaining. (Sometimes, the entertaining bit doesn't work out too well for me.)
I love Jesus. I love who I am in Him. And I love who you are . . . and hope that one day you will love you, too.
